Is Matomo approved by the CNIL?
The CNIL (French data protection authority) has confirmed that Matomo can be used without cookie consent when configured correctly with cookieless tracking, IP anonymization, and limited data retention.
This exemption applies specifically to audience measurement. Other Matomo features like heatmaps or session recordings that use cookies still require consent.
