Does Matomo for WordPress slow down my site?
The “Matomo Analytics” plugin (which runs Matomo inside WordPress) can add some load to your server since it processes analytics data in the same PHP environment. For sites with more than 50,000 visits per month, a dedicated Matomo instance is recommended.
Using an external Matomo instance (via tracking code or Connect plugin) has no performance impact on WordPress beyond the small tracking JavaScript file loaded by the visitor’s browser.
